Creating a treasury

Ways to create
There are three main ways to create a treasury (not counting Shmetsy, which isn't working well for many people right now):
1. Use the Add to treasury feature
  • On the new item page view, Add to treasury is way down at the bottom of the page, below the item's tags.

2. Basic method
To create a treasury, I find it easiest to work in multiple browser tabs.
1.     First, create a new treasury.
a.     From Etsy’s home page, go to More Ways to Shop on the bottom left and choose Treasury.
b.     On the top right, under Curator Tools, choose Create a List.

2.     Fill in the Title and Description. I’ve decided to make a treasury called “TeamLove loves flowers!”

3.     Open a second tab in your browser, navigate to Etsy and search. I’m searching for teamlove flowers.

4.     Find an item you want to include in the treasury. Right-click on it and Open Link in New Tab.
5.     Click on the item’s browser tab (third from the left in my screenshots) and find the 9-digit number in the URL. Highlight the number by double-clicking it and Copy the number.

6.     Close the item’s browser tab and go to the browser tab for the treasury list. (In these screenshots, it’s the far left tab.)
a.     Click in a box that says Listing URL and Paste.

b.     Click OK, and the photo appears in the box.

7.     Repeat steps 4 through 6b for the other 15 item slots.
8.     If you’d like to rearrange items, click and hold on an item and drag it to a different spot. Play around until you’re happy.
9.     Fill in your tags.
a.     Always use “TeamLoveGroup” so your treasury will automatically be entered in the TeamLove monthly contest.

10.  Scroll to the bottom and click Save. Your treasury is live for people to see!

11.  Go to the current week’s “The Curator” TeamLove Discussion thread.
a.     Paste the treasury link in the Discussion.

12.  Notify shops whose items you featured that they’re in your treasury. The easiest way to do this is through Shmetsy.
a.     If you install the Shmetsy tools in your browser, from the treasury page, click the yellow and white Shmetsy star and select Convo Sender.

b.     b. Scroll down and click Send me to Etsy.com

c.     It takes you to your treasury page. Scroll down until you see Send convos on the bottom right. Edit the message if you’d like and click Send.

13.  Finally, go through your treasury and hover over each item to heart (or unheart and then heart) it.

3. Enhantsy
Think of Enhantsy as "enhancements on Etsy." Enhantsy offers tools for making treasuries and sending convos to people featured. Click here for step-by-step details.

Things to remember
Regardless of how you create a treasury, keep these things in mind.
  1. Always add the TeamLoveGroup tag.
  2. Use 16 different shops, and don't use your own.
  3. Paste the link to your finished treasury in the current week's The Curator thread.
  4. Promote on your social networks. Here are guidelines for a few common ones.
a.     Pinterest
        i.     Go to treasurypin.com and paste the treasury URL, then click Go!

                      ii.     Click the Pin It button.

                      iii.     Choose your collection, type the treasury name and click PinIt.

b.     Twitter
                       i.     From the treasury page, click the Tweet button.

                      ii.     Add hashtags (always #teamlove and #vintage), any other description you want and click Tweet.

Posting a Link & Picture in a TeamLove Discussion Thread

It's really pretty simple, but it looks like it could be complicated.

1.  Pick the item that you want to post into the discussion thread

2.  Go to the URL (the link that is in the address bar) and click one time at the end of the link

3.  Link or URL should be highlighted (if it isn't, hold the left click of your mouse down and drag it to the other end of the address bar, and when you get to the end, let up on the left click)

4.  Now, point the mouse at the link (on top of it) and right click one time

5.  You should see the dropdown menu. Scroll down and click Copy

6.  Go to the team Discussion page by clicking on the word Community in the upper lefthand corner of your Etsy page.

7.  Now, click the word Team in the lefthand column

8.  Click the word Discussion

9.  Now, scroll down the list of discussions and find the thread you want to paste your picture/link into and click on it

10.  Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a comment box. Left-click once in the comment box

11.  Right-click in the comment box and you will see the dropdown menu. Click Paste

12.  Your link or URL should appear in the comment box.

13.  Now, click Post Reply

14.  You will automatically be taken to the last page of the thread and you will see a picture of your item and the title of the item. If you click on the title or the picture, you will be taken to that item page.

Current TeamLove promotions

Imagine being able to design your own promotional schedule to fit your personal and shop goals. Do you have a job outside of Etsy? Is Etsy your full time job?

We have several TeamLove promotions, all based on reciprocation; the more you participate in the promos, the more your shop or items will be promoted. Limited in time? Then pick the promo that you think will work best for you, your family or your health!

Each shop owner can design their own promotional schedule and hopefully these descriptions will be helpful to you, as a shop owner, in deciding how much time, energy and effort you want to put into promoting.

Remember, we are not asking you to participate in all of these promos. If you have to take some time off for a while, just let the team know you’re taking a break. We want you to be as successful in your Etsy shop as you can be….and still have fun doing it!

If I were going to suggest two promotions to focus on, it would be the Flash Mob (because it helps you to build your social shopping networks slowly and promotes your shop outside of Etsy while increasing your relevancy with the search engines), and one Etsy-based promotion.

Weekly promotions
These require a commitment to participate daily, although some members that can only participate toward the end of the week are very successful in both of these.

Parade of Fashion
* Etsy-based promotion
* Post 1 item each week
* Heart/reheart all the items every day, and then note you’re done
* About 2-3 minutes a day
* We start a new thread each week

Window Shopping
* Etsy-based promotion
* Post a link to your shop
* Heart/reheart all of the shops every day, and then note you’re done
* About 3-4 minutes a day
* We start a new thread each week

Other promotions
Flash Mob Social Network * Goal: To keep our social networks active
* Each day we add a new social networking thread to the discussion group.  Each day's thread is pinned at the top of the list
* "Share" an item using the social network of the day, then locate your post and paste it into the discussion thread that corresponds into the comment box
* Come back during that day and repost/repin/retweet, etc. teammates’ items
* About 5 minutes a day
* We close each thread six days from when it was opened
* You don't have to participate every day; just participate with the networks you'd like

Five Shops a Day
* Etsy-based promotion
* Five shops will be posted in this thread by the Team Captain (we will rotate through the membership list)
* Click on each link and heart/reheart each shop
* Come back each day if possible and promote the five new shops. We would appreciate when your shop is chosen if you favorite the other shops
* About 1 minute a day

Team Leaders Daily Pick
* Etsy-based promotion
* Focusing is promoting multiple items individually as well as in treasuries. We hope members will at least promote the daily pick treasuries they are in.
* Heart each day’s four items, chosen by a team leader who rotates through member shops.
* About 2-3 minutes a day

Oldies but Goodies
* Etsy-based promotion
* Participate as you can
* If you post three items, please scroll up to the three items above you and heart or reheart them

New Listings & Sales
* Etsy-based promotion
* Post your new listings.
* Heart or reheart all of the items listed that day

Treasuries
* Etsy-based promotion also promoted by team members on social networking sites
(Remember to make sure all items you choose are tagged TeamLove; not all items in member shops are.)
* Promote by hearting the items in the treasuries, hearting the treasury, making treasuries, promoting treasuries on Social Networking Sites
* Post links in "The Curator - Love of Vintage Treasuries" thread

Subscribing to TeamLove Twitter Account Membership List

We ask our members of Love of Vintage - Etsy Team who are on Twitter to subscribe to the Team LOVE Members List

When you subscribe to the list, your tweets will automatically be retweeted. This is an extra bonus just for our TeamLove members.

To subscribe to the list:

  1. Sign into your twitter account
  2. Copy this link and paste it into your browser address bar:   twitter.com/Etsy_Team_LOVE/team-love-members
  3. Click the "Subscribe" button

Auto Retweet the TeamLove Twitter List

RoundTeam is a free service that will retweet TeamLove members' tweets without breaking Twitter guidelines and without you spending a whole lot of time doing it. Try it -- you'll love it!

1. Go to: http://roundteam.co/ and sign up using your Twitter account

2. Click "Add Twitter Account" and authorize the app

3. Click the "+" next to "Lists"

4. Set it to retweet our Twitter Team List (which you can find at https://twitter.com/Etsy_Team_LOVE/lists)

* In the first space, put: Etsy_Team_LOVE
* In the second space, put: team-love-members
* Leave the third space empty

5. Click "Add"

6. Hover over Etsy_Team_LOVE/team-love-members, then click the funnel to set the filters
* I suggest "no conversations" and a "minimum time interval" between tweets so you don't overwhelm your account.

You can go back and tweak the settings if needed, but otherwise you're done.

It takes about two hours to get into the queue after you sign up. Doing this will help you to mix up your tweets, but be sure to tweet your own stuff, too!

Happy tweeting (and retweeting)!!!
